The short answer
Good laundry room cabinets put storage where the washer and dryer leave room for it: wall cabinets above the machines, a tall utility cabinet beside them, and base cabinets under a folding counter or sink. In a Southwest Florida laundry, the box material matters as much as the door style. Plywood boxes, durable painted or laminate finishes and sealed edges stand up to the moisture a dryer and a utility sink put into a small room, while raw particleboard swells the first time it gets wet.

## How Should Cabinets Fit Around a Washer and Dryer?
Start with the machines, not the cabinets. Front-loaders side by side leave the wall above them free for a run of uppers and let a counter span the tops, so the cabinets above can sit lower and stay within reach. A top-loader needs clear space overhead for the lid, which pushes uppers higher or calls for open shelving instead. Next to the pair, a tall cabinet 18 to 24 inches wide holds the vacuum, mops and ironing board, and a drawer base or pull-out hamper turns the leftover floor space into sorting space. Behind everything, leave room for the dryer vent, the water valves and an outlet you can reach.

Materials decide how long the room looks new. Plywood boxes tolerate an occasional splash better than particleboard, and edge banding on every exposed cut keeps water out of the core. Painted shaker doors and slab doors in laminate or melamine both clean easily; avoid finishes that peel when steam from the dryer hits them. Soft-close hinges, full-extension drawer slides, a hanging rod under the uppers and LED lighting under the cabinets are small additions that change how the room works every day.

## What Changes in a Florida Laundry Room?
Moisture is the constant. A dryer exhausting into a short or crushed vent pushes warm, wet air back into the room, and in our climate that shows up as swollen cabinet edges and mildew behind the machines. ### What is the best material for laundry room cabinets?
Plywood boxes with a durable painted, laminate or melamine finish hold up best, because laundry rooms see splashes, steam and humidity. Whatever the box, every exposed edge should be banded or sealed. Particleboard can work in a dry, air-conditioned room, but it does not forgive a leak or a wet floor.

### How high should cabinets be above the washer and dryer?
