## Which Features Make a Bathroom Feel Like a Spa?
Water is the center of it. A thermostatic valve holds the temperature steady, a ceiling-mounted rain head pairs with a handheld on a slide bar, and body sprays or a steam generator can be added if the enclosure is built for them. A built-in bench and a niche at shoulder height make long showers comfortable. For soaking, a freestanding tub at least 20 inches deep or a deck-mounted tub with a stone surround gives real immersion, unlike the shallow garden tubs found in many older homes.

Comfort features finish the effect. Electric radiant mats under tile take the chill off floors on winter mornings. Lighting should come in layers: soft cove or toe-kick light for night, vertical sconces at the mirror for grooming, and dimmable overheads. Towel warmers, an anti-fog mirror, a quiet humidity-sensing fan and closed storage for daily products keep the room calm. Materials such as warm wood vanities, honed stone, textured tile and plaster-look walls soften a room that is otherwise all hard surfaces, and a small stool or teak bench gives you somewhere to sit while the tub fills.

## How Do You Build a Spa Bath for Florida Humidity?
A spa bath produces a lot of moisture, and in Southwest Florida the air outside does not help dry it out. Ventilation is the first thing we size: a fan rated for the room and shower volume, ducted to the exterior rather than the attic, and set to run until humidity drops. Waterproofing behind the tile must be continuous, and a steam option needs a steam-rated membrane and a sloped ceiling. Porcelain and quartzite handle these conditions with less maintenance than soft marble or limestone.

Water heater capacity is often overlooked. A large soaking tub and a multi-head shower can outrun a standard tank, so we check whether a larger unit or a tankless heater makes sense. Most homes here are slab-on-grade, so a curbless shower or relocated tub drain means cutting concrete, which is routine but should be planned in the budget. Plumbing and electrical changes require permits through your city or county, and condo owners in Naples and Bonita Springs need association approval for drain and exhaust work.
