Construction started in the late 1980s and continued into the early 1990s. Most homes have about 1,800 to 3,000 square feet, many face a lake, and a buffer along Tamiami Trail gives a number of lots more room than nearby neighborhoods. The community has been recognized for native landscaping that limits irrigation.
