## Which Layout Works for a Shared Office?
Side-by-side desks along one long wall use space efficiently and share a single run of built-in storage above, but put both people in each other's peripheral vision. Back-to-back desks on opposite walls give each person a private view and keep video calls from showing the other person in the background. Facing desks work for couples who collaborate, though a low divider helps. An L-shaped layout gives each person a corner. Plan about 60 inches of desk width and 24 to 30 inches of depth per person, with chair clearance behind.

Acoustics decide whether the room works. Hard floors, glass and bare walls make every call echo, so add a rug, upholstered seating, acoustic panels or fabric-wrapped wall sections, and bookshelves full of books, which diffuse sound. A solid-core door with seals keeps household noise out. Lighting should come from the side or front to flatter both people on camera. Each workstation needs its own outlets, network drop and cable management, and a shared printer and file storage can sit in a closet or cabinet between them.
