The changes we plan most often are in finish and function: custom cabinetry in place of the original builder line, a larger island with seating and storage on both sides, quartzite counters, a slab or tile backsplash to the ceiling, and appliances with integrated panels so the kitchen reads as part of the living space. Undercabinet lighting, pendants over the island and a dimmable ceiling plan make the kitchen work both for cooking and for evening entertaining. The flex room off the kitchen in the first-floor plan is often brought into the design as a pantry, bar or home office, with matching cabinetry.
