The short answer
A poolside outdoor kitchen in Southwest Florida usually sits under the covered lanai, inside the pool cage, a few steps from the water. The layout puts the grill and hot zone at the back under the solid roof, with prep counter, sink, refrigerator and bar seating facing the pool. Materials need to handle sun, salt and pool chemicals: 304 stainless appliances, masonry or marine-grade cabinetry and sealed stone or porcelain counters. Drainage, ventilation and GFCI power complete the plan.

## How Should a Poolside Kitchen Be Laid Out?
Separate the cooking from the swimming. The grill, side burner or griddle belongs under the solid roof portion of the lanai, ideally against the house or a short wall, with a vent hood if the manufacturer requires one for covered installation. Prep space goes beside it, then a sink and refrigerator, and finally a raised bar ledge so guests can sit facing the pool without standing in the cook's path. L-shaped and straight runs fit most lanais; an island with seating on the pool side works where the roof is deep enough.

Choose materials for the conditions. Base cabinets built from masonry block with stucco or stone veneer last indefinitely; marine-grade polymer and powder-coated aluminum cabinets also resist moisture. Counters in granite, quartzite or outdoor-rated porcelain handle heat and sun better than indoor quartz, which can discolor in UV light. Appliances should be 304 or higher-grade stainless. Add a refrigerator rated for outdoor use, an ice maker, trash pull-out and lighting on separate switches. Our outdoor kitchen packages start from $18,000.

| Element | Recommended choice | Why |
| ------- | ------------------ | --- |
| Cabinet base | Masonry with stucco or stone, or marine-grade polymer | No rot, swelling or rust in humidity |
| Countertop | Granite, quartzite or outdoor porcelain | UV-stable and heat-tolerant |
| Appliances | 304 or 316 stainless, outdoor-rated refrigeration | Resist corrosion from salt and pool chemicals |
| Ventilation | Outdoor-rated hood under solid roofs | Moves smoke and grease away from the ceiling |
| Power | Dedicated GFCI circuits | Required near water and outdoors |
| Flooring | Pavers or textured, slip-resistant tile | Safe when wet, drains toward the pool deck drain |

## What Changes Under a Florida Pool Cage?
The screen enclosure and lanai roof shape everything. Smoke and heat need a way out, so we keep grills away from screen panels that can melt and from low ceilings that trap grease, and we follow each manufacturer's clearance and hood requirements for covered use. Gas lines, electrical and water supply typically run under the pool deck, which is easiest when the deck is being redone. Drainage matters: the lanai floor must pitch away from the house so rinse water and storm rain do not pool against the kitchen base.

Salt air near the Gulf and chlorine from the pool both corrode lower-grade metals, which is why marine-grade hardware and regular cleaning are worth it. Every outdoor kitchen with gas, plumbing or electrical work generally needs permits from the City of Bonita Springs, Lee County, Collier County or the City of Naples, and most HOAs review the design. Hurricane season is another planning point: built-in masonry islands stay put, while loose furniture and freestanding grills should be secured or brought inside before a storm.

## Poolside Outdoor Kitchen Questions

### Can you put a grill under a lanai roof?
Yes, many local outdoor kitchens have the grill under a solid lanai roof, but the manufacturer's clearance rules must be followed and a vent hood rated for outdoor use is often needed. Keep the grill away from screen panels and plan adequate ceiling height above it.

### How far should an outdoor kitchen be from the pool?
There is no single distance, but keep electrical outlets and appliances at the spacing local code requires from the water, and leave a clear walkway between the kitchen and pool edge. We confirm required electrical clearances during design and permitting.

### What countertop is best for an outdoor kitchen in Florida?
Granite, quartzite and outdoor-rated porcelain hold up best to sun, heat and humidity. Most indoor quartz is not recommended outdoors because UV exposure can fade or yellow the resin. Lighter colors stay cooler to the touch in direct afternoon sun.
