The short answer
For a full swing with a standard 58-inch cue, plan about 13 by 16 feet for a 7-foot table, about 13.5 by 17 feet for an 8-foot table, and about 14 by 18 feet for a 9-foot table. Those dimensions come from the playing surface plus roughly five feet of cue clearance on every side. With shorter 52- or 48-inch cues you can play in a room about a foot smaller in each direction. Furniture, bars and columns inside that zone reduce the usable space.

## How Much Room Does a Pool Table Need?
Room size starts with the playing surface, not the outside of the table. A 7-foot table has a playing area of about 39 by 78 inches, an 8-foot about 44 by 88 inches, and a regulation 9-foot about 50 by 100 inches. Add the length of a cue plus a few inches for the backswing on all four sides and you get the minimum room. Many homeowners pick the 8-foot table as a balance between play and space, and keep a short cue on the rack for tight shots near a wall.

Lighting and finishes complete the room. A billiard light should hang low enough to light the whole surface without glare, typically around 30 to 36 inches above the playing surface, and span most of the table length. Flooring needs to be level and solid because a slate table can weigh several hundred pounds. Low-pile carpet or hardwood-look vinyl plank are common choices. Wall-mounted or freestanding cue racks belong outside the playing zone, and bar-height seating on one long side lets spectators watch without blocking strokes.

| Table size | Approx. playing surface | Room with 58 in cue | Room with 52 in cue |
| ---------- | ----------------------- | ------------------- | ------------------- |
| 7 ft | 39 × 78 in | About 13 × 16 ft | About 12 × 15 ft |
| 8 ft | 44 × 88 in | About 13.5 × 17 ft | About 12.5 × 16 ft |
| 9 ft | 50 × 100 in | About 14 × 18 ft | About 13 × 17 ft |

## What Matters for Billiard Rooms in Southwest Florida?
Many homes in Bonita Springs and Naples have a great room, a bonus room over the garage or a den that can host a table, but open floor plans often lose clearance to columns, kitchen islands or lanai doors. Measuring the actual room before buying the table prevents expensive surprises. Humidity is the other factor. Slate is stable, but wood rails, cushions and cloth respond to moisture, so the table belongs in the air-conditioned house with the AC running even when you are away for the season.

A bonus room over the garage needs a structural check before a heavy slate table is placed there, and stairs may limit delivery. On slab-on-grade floors, the concrete supports the weight easily but must be level, so we check flatness before flooring goes down. Sliding doors to the lanai let natural light in but can cause glare on the cloth in late afternoon, so shades or tinted glass help. Our game room packages start from $14,000 and include lighting, flooring and storage planned around your table.

## Pool Table Room Questions

### What is the minimum room size for a 7-foot pool table?
With standard 58-inch cues, plan about 13 by 16 feet. If you use 52-inch cues, roughly 12 by 15 feet works. In a smaller room, keep a short cue on hand for shots close to walls or furniture.

### How high should a pool table light hang?
Most players hang the light about 30 to 36 inches above the playing surface. That lights the whole table evenly without blocking the view or shining into players' eyes. The fixture should cover most of the table's length.

### Can I put a slate pool table on a second floor?
Often, but have the floor structure checked first. Slate tables are very heavy, and bonus rooms over garages may need reinforcement. Delivery up the stairs also matters, so measure turns and landings before you buy.
