Owners who customize usually focus on the details a production finish schedule cannot offer: a quartzite or marble slab in place of the standard top, a full-height backsplash in the same stone, upgraded cabinet doors and hardware, a paneled refrigerator, a beverage center and better lighting under the cabinets and over the island. Because the cabinet boxes are new and well built, some owners keep them and change doors, counters and lighting, while others replace everything to get the layout they want.
