The short answer
A home golf simulator room needs enough space to swing a driver safely: about 10 feet of clear ceiling height, a width of roughly 12 to 16 feet, and a depth of about 15 to 20 feet for the hitting area, screen and launch monitor. Key parts include an impact screen and enclosure, a projector, a launch monitor, a hitting mat, and turf flooring. Cost depends on the room work and technology chosen, from a converted spare room to a dedicated bay with a bar and seating.

## What Does a Golf Simulator Room Need?
Ceiling height sets the limit. A tall golfer swinging a driver needs more headroom than most 8-foot rooms allow, which is why 10 feet or more is the usual target. Width should allow a full swing with clearance on both sides, and extra width lets left- and right-handed players share the bay. Depth covers the distance from the screen to the ball, the hitting mat, the golfer and the launch monitor if it sits behind the player.

The technology stack includes a launch monitor that reads ball and club data, either a camera unit overhead or on the floor or a radar unit behind the golfer. An impact screen in a padded enclosure stops the ball, a short-throw or ceiling-mounted projector sends the image without the golfer casting a shadow, and simulation software on a PC runs courses and practice modes. Turf flooring, a quality hitting mat, side netting or padding, controlled lighting that does not wash out the screen and dedicated outlets complete the room. A small cabinet keeps the PC cool and out of sight.

| Element | Typical target | Why it matters |
| ------- | -------------- | -------------- |
| Ceiling height | About 10 ft clear | Room for a full driver swing |
| Room width | Roughly 12–16 ft | Swing clearance and space for both hands |
| Room depth | About 15–20 ft | Screen, ball, golfer and launch monitor |
| Launch monitor | Overhead camera, floor unit or radar | Reads ball flight and club data |
| Screen and enclosure | Impact screen with padded sides | Safely stops the ball |
| Projector | Short-throw or ceiling-mounted | Bright image without shadows |
| Flooring | Turf with a hitting mat | Realistic feel and protects joints |

## How Does It Fit a Southwest Florida Home?
Golf-community homes in Bonita Springs and Naples often have bonus rooms, spare bedrooms or extended garages, but many have 8 or 9 foot ceilings that fall short. Options include raising a ceiling into attic space where trusses allow, using a garage bay with a taller ceiling, or building in a great room or bonus room with vaulted space. Changing trusses requires engineering and a permit. Garage conversions also need air conditioning, insulation, and attention to flood-zone rules where the slab sits below the required elevation.

Humidity affects electronics and screens, so the room should be fully air-conditioned. Upstairs bays need impact noise managed so ball strikes do not echo through the house. Condo and HOA owners usually need approval for structural or electrical changes. Many owners use a simulator to keep practicing during summer heat and rain, then pair it with a bar or lounge seating for friends waiting their turn. Our game room packages start from $14,000, and simulator equipment is chosen to match your room, your budget and how seriously you practice.

## Golf Simulator Room Questions

### What is the minimum ceiling height for a golf simulator?
About 10 feet is a common target for full driver swings, though it depends on the golfer's height and swing. Some people use 9-foot rooms with shorter clubs or by standing in the tallest spot. We measure your room with LiDAR and check your swing path before finalizing the layout.

### Can I put a golf simulator in my garage?
Often, yes, if the garage has enough height and depth. Most Florida garages need air conditioning, insulation and lighting upgrades to protect the electronics and make the room comfortable. If you convert part of the garage permanently, permits and flood-zone rules may apply.

### What kind of launch monitor works best in a home?
It depends on room depth and budget. Overhead camera units save floor space and work for both left- and right-handed golfers. Radar units sit behind the golfer and need more depth. Floor camera units sit beside the ball. We help you choose based on your room and how you practice.

## Why Golfers Choose Cutting Edge
A simulator room is part construction and part technology, and both have to be right for the bay to feel real. Cutting Edge Kitchen & Bath handles the framing, ceiling, electrical, flooring and finishes as a licensed Florida general contractor. We work from a 4,000-square-foot showroom at 28280 Old 41 Road in Bonita Springs, with more than 500 Southwest Florida remodels and nine Best of Houzz awards. A free LiDAR scan confirms the swing clearance, and a photo-real 3D render shows the bay before we build under one fixed-price contract.
