The short answer
A great game room is planned in zones, not filled with furniture. Pick the anchor first, usually a pool table, shuffleboard or a poker table, and size the room around the clearance it needs. Then add a lounge zone with a large screen for gaming or sports, a bar or beverage counter, and built-in storage for cues, consoles and board games. Layered lighting, durable flooring and sound control turn a spare bonus room into the space everyone ends up in.

## How Should You Zone a Game Room?
Start with the biggest piece. A pool table needs roughly five feet of clear space on every side for a standard cue, so an 8-foot table wants a room of about 13 by 17 feet. A tournament shuffleboard table runs 18 to 22 feet long and suits a narrow bonus room or a long wall. Poker and card tables need far less space and pair well with a lounge area. Once the anchor is placed, the media wall, seating and bar fall into the leftover space.

Lighting does more than anyone expects. A dedicated pendant over the table, dimmable recessed cans for the lounge and LED strips under a bar top let the room shift from bright play to a relaxed evening. For floors, luxury vinyl plank and engineered wood handle rolling chairs and spilled drinks, while a low-pile area rug helps soften sound. Built-ins tie it together: a cue rack, closed cabinets for consoles and cables, display shelving for memorabilia, and a back bar with a beverage fridge so nobody leaves the game for a drink.

| Game | Typical playing size | Room size to plan for |
| ---- | -------------------- | --------------------- |
| 7-ft pool table | About 39 × 78 in playing surface | About 13 × 16 ft with standard cues |
| 8-ft pool table | About 44 × 88 in playing surface | About 13 × 17 ft with standard cues |
| Tournament shuffleboard | 18–22 ft long | Length plus 2–3 ft at each end |
| Poker table (8 players) | About 84 × 44 in oval | About 12 × 10 ft with chairs pulled back |
| Dartboard | 7 ft 9¼ in throw line | About 11 ft of clear lane |
| Air hockey or foosball | Table about 4–8 ft long | 3 ft clear around the table |

## What Changes in a Florida Bonus Room?
Many Southwest Florida homes have a bonus room over the garage or a large den off the lanai, and both make good game rooms with a few adjustments. Second-floor rooms over garages tend to run hot, so we check insulation and duct sizing before adding a crowd and a big TV. On slab-on-grade ground floors, the concrete is rarely perfectly flat, and a pool table needs a level surface; a slate table can be shimmed, but flooring should go down over a properly prepared slab.

Humidity is hard on felt, wood and electronics. Keep the game room inside the air-conditioned envelope, and if the room opens to the lanai, use impact-rated sliders that seal well. Condo owners in Bonita Springs and Naples will need association approval for flooring changes, since most buildings require a sound underlayment. New circuits for a bar fridge, lighting or a projector are permitted work. Our game room packages start from $14,000, and the free LiDAR scan confirms what fits before you buy a table or order cabinetry.

## Game Room Questions

### How big does a room need to be for a pool table?
Plan on the table's playing surface plus about five feet on each side for standard 58-inch cues. That means roughly 13 by 16 feet for a 7-foot table and 13 by 17 feet for an 8-foot table. Shorter cues can help in a tight room, and we confirm the fit with the free LiDAR scan.

### What is the best flooring for a game room?
Luxury vinyl plank and engineered hardwood are the most common choices because they handle chairs, spills and heavy tables. Porcelain tile works on a ground-floor slab. In condos, the building usually requires a sound-rated underlayment, so check association rules before choosing a floor.

### Should a game room have a bar?
In most homes, yes. Even a short back bar with a sink, beverage refrigerator and glass storage keeps guests in the room instead of walking to the kitchen. A sink requires plumbing, so locating the bar near an existing wet wall keeps the cost down.
