The short answer
A double vanity puts two sinks on one cabinet run so two people can get ready at the same time. Plan on at least 60 inches of width, though 72 inches gives each person real counter space and 84 inches or more allows storage towers or a drawer bank between the sinks. The other big choice is one shared vanity versus two separate vanities on different walls, which depends on your floor plan, mirror placement and how you share the room.

## How Big Should a Double Vanity Be?
Width drives everything. At 60 inches, two sinks fit but the counter between them is tight, so it works best for a secondary bath or a couple with different schedules. At 72 inches, each person gets elbow room and a usable patch of counter. From 84 inches up, you can add a center drawer bank, a tall linen tower or a section where the counter steps down. Designers usually keep sink centers about 30 inches or more apart, and standard depth is 21 to 22 inches, with deeper tops for vessel sinks.

Separate vanities on opposite or adjacent walls give each person their own mirror, lighting and storage, and they avoid elbow bumping entirely, but they need a larger room and double the plumbing runs. A popular middle path is one long vanity with a seated makeup station: a section lowered to desk height around 30 inches, with knee space, drawers and good front lighting. Storage towers that sit on the counter or rise to the ceiling keep toiletries off the top. Each sink needs its own drain and supply connections, which the layout has to account for early.

| Vanity width | What fits | Best for |
| ------------ | --------- | -------- |
| 60 in | Two sinks, minimal counter between them | Secondary baths, tight primary baths |
| 72 in | Two sinks with usable counter for each person | Most primary baths |
| 84 in | Two sinks plus a center drawer bank or tower | Couples who want more storage |
| 96 in and up | Sinks, towers and a seated makeup station | Large primary suites |
| Two separate vanities | Individual mirrors, lights and storage | Rooms with two usable walls |

## What Changes in a Southwest Florida Bath?
Many primary baths in Bonita Springs and Naples homes from the 1990s and 2000s already have a long vanity wall with two sinks, often a cultured-marble top on a builder cabinet. Keeping that plumbing wall usually saves money. Moving to separate vanities or shifting sinks can mean opening the slab, because drains in slab-on-grade homes run below the floor. We confirm drain locations during the scan before you commit to a layout.

Humidity shapes the materials. A double vanity in a steamy primary bath does best with plywood boxes, sealed finishes and quartz or sealed natural stone tops. Ventilation should be sized for a room with two people showering on the same morning. Mirrors need care on exterior walls with large windows, which are common here, so we plan sconces and mirror sizes around the glass. Condo owners should check that the association allows relocating drains, since stacked plumbing limits how far a sink can move. Permits are needed when plumbing or electrical changes, which is most vanity swaps that add a sink.

## Double Vanity Questions

### What is the minimum size for a double vanity?
Sixty inches is the practical minimum for two sinks. It works, but counter space between the bowls is limited. For a primary bath used by two people at once, 72 inches is a more comfortable target, and anything longer opens room for drawers or towers.

### Is it better to have one double vanity or two separate vanities?
Two separate vanities give each person a private zone with their own mirror and storage, but they need more wall space and more plumbing. One long double vanity is easier to fit, keeps plumbing on a single wall and can include a seated makeup section.

### Can I add a makeup station to a double vanity?
Yes. A lowered section around 30 inches high with knee space, a mirror and good lighting can sit between or beside the sinks. It needs at least 30 inches of width to be comfortable, and drawers on either side keep cosmetics organized.
