A home spa here is not a novelty; it is recovery infrastructure. Florida also makes spa construction unforgiving. Steam at 110 degrees inside a home in a subtropical climate is a vapor-management problem before it is a design problem: full vapor-sealed enclosures, sloped ceilings that shed condensation, flood-tested waterproofing beneath every surface, and ventilation sized to purge humidity fast. Coastal homes from Bonita Beach to Fort Myers Beach add salt air and stricter electrical placement to the list. We build to those realities as a matter of standard practice — because a spa that leaks vapor into a wall cavity in this climate is a mold problem within a season.

The home spa conversion usually starts in one of two places: a master bath with room to become more, or the spare bedroom next door whose wall is the only thing between you and a true spa suite. Either way, the destination is the same — steam, sauna, oversized shower, and the daily ritual that used to require a resort reservation.

Steam is the anchor, and steam is engineering. A steam shower needs a fully enclosed, sloped-ceiling envelope, waterproofing beyond even our standard bathroom membrane spec, a properly sized generator placed for service access, and materials that love humidity for decades. This is precisely the project where the wrap-and-caulk contractor fails in year three — and where our flood-tested, vapor-sealed builds are still tight in year fifteen. Sauna joins as a prebuilt or fully custom cedar room, infrared or traditional, on its own dedicated circuit with ventilation planned rather than improvised.

Around those anchors the suite composes itself: a curbless rain-and-handheld shower, heated floors underfoot, a soaking tub if the footprint allows, dimmable scene lighting, and stone chosen by slab — with backlit Designer Stone Panels available for the wall that makes the whole room glow. Bedroom-annex conversions open the shared wall, borrow the closet for mechanicals, and finish with the room feeling original to the house.

A steam shower is the most technically demanding room in residential construction — plumbing, electrical, waterproofing, and ventilation all converging in a sealed hot box. That is why ours are built entirely by our own licensed trades on one schedule: the steam generator sized and wired correctly, the enclosure vapor-sealed as a system, every pan flood-tested before tile, and the permit pulled and closed so the sale-time inspection is a formality. No subcontractor relay, no finger-pointing — one team owns the whole envelope.
